"Signs around the school say that safeguarding is a priority, and no one in school is in any doubt that this is the case. School staff fully understand their responsibilities to keep pupils safe."OFSTED November 2018
Schools are charged with maintaining a safe, supportive environment which protects the rights and needs of children at all times. School staff have regular contact with children and young people, and a responsibility to help identify signs of children in need of additional support or protection accordingly.
Together, these responsibilities are called safeguarding.
At Newchurch Primary School, keeping children safe is at the heart of everything that we do. We recognise our safeguarding responsibilities to include:
- Creating a safe environment for children and young people through robust safeguarding practices
- Ensuring that adults who work in school, including volunteers, are able to work with children safely, and are properly trained and equipped to do so
- Teaching children and young people to stay safe
- Maintaining an environment in which children feel confident to talk to a trusted adult if they have a worry or problem
Newchurch Primary School follows the procedures set out by the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnership. The school works in close partnership woth external agencies to ensure all aspects of Keeping Children Safe in Education are complied with at all times.
If you are worried or concerned about a child please contact any of the named safeguarding leads via the school office, please share that your concern is of a safeguarding nature.
